These are among the oldest living things in the world...with several living examples over 5,000 years old. Even after the tree dies, the stumps will stand for another 500-600 years! They're located in very few areas: The Great Basin, in a forest near Bishop, CA and a few in the White Mountains of California. The stump of one of the oldest ever found ( a tree the locals named Prometheus) can be seen in the visitor center. The airport was a busy place…fire crews loading helicopters with fire retardant in anticipation of an upcoming thunder storm…which brings lightning and fires. The storm missed Sedona, but fires are burning in other parts of the state. The flowers come out at night and fold back up when the sun hits them in early morning. It runs every hour on the hour for 15 minutes. The height varies, but the highest it goes is 560'.
